Sensory Magick

Any 1-dot sensory magick may be rolled as either Arete (usually diff 4) or Perception+Awareness (usually diff 6; +1 if you don't have Awareness), at the PC's discretion. This resolves the Vague Even For WW (tm) standard rule about "standard" vs "weird" perceptions, and also encourages game mechanics to match personality (low-level mages will rely more on Perception, high-level mages will rely more on Arete).

Staff has the option of privately rolling Perception+Awareness at +1 difficulty to see whether a PC passively notices something.
