On Miles Altus we want kinfolk, primarily, who are designed to be active 'movers and shakers' in the sphere. You are meant to be the 'exceptional' kinfolk of the sept. What does this mean? You are the politician, the police officer, the lawyer, the doctor who work in the city where the shifters cannot. You are the money earners and the link to the human world. Kinfolk need to all, in their applications, include a paragraph explaining how they are useful to their sept.

Unknowing kinfolk applications will all be rejected. All kinfolk must be aware of their heritage and actively desire to work as part of the sept. Does this mean you can't have some resentment of your position? Absolutely not. It does mean, however, that you're expected to be the kin who 'follow the rules' or 'work within the system' to try to change it.

Because you are the exceptional kinfolk, you will not be expected to have a 'mated' kinfolk. Staff will never force any 'matings' on a kinfolk PC. While kinfolk are low in the shifters pecking order, you will still have control over the direction of your PC within the bounds of canon play.

We're accepting the same tribes as are open for shifters. Kinfolk should design their characters based on Kinfolk: Unsung Heroes.

I know there's an urge to make your Kinfolk special in some way, especially because you don't want to get stuck in the 'useless' category. However, I don't want 100 Kinfolk with Numina, Gnosis or Gifts running around. I would much prefer you take a very high rating in a few skills or a lot of resources than to see you take 'special powers'. Especially because most Kinfolk do not have these, and I am going to keep the ratios about accurate in terms of what I allow into the sphere. If you want special powers, play a full-blown shifter or a mortal+ who isn't a Kinfolk. That said, powers that make sense to the character AND are in some way related to their being Kinfolk will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Some breeds are more likely than others to support kinfolk with powers.

Job ideas:

  • Doctor
  • Lawyer
  • Politician
  • Conservationist
  • Actor
  • Cop
  • Journalist
  • Lobbyist
  • Teacher
  • Veterinarian
  • Investor
  • Businessman
  • Zoo worker
  • Pharmacist
  • Sports star
  • etc.

In terms of statting, Kinfolk get stats like any basic supernatural character, with the exception of the cool powers:

  • 7/5/3 for Attributes
  • 13/9/5 for Abilities
  • 5 Backgrounds

You're a mortal, and mortals have a base Willpower of 3. I would prefer to see you take no more than one 5 in abilities. Kinfolk can buy some of the Restricted Merits more easily than a shifter, such as Corporate CEO, because you lack the Rage that makes such positions so difficult for your shifting cousins.

While most kinfolk are still second class citizens, some tribes of shifter and some fera kinfolk enjoy a more equal relationship with their changing breed cousins. Please make sure you are familiar with the Breedbook and Tribebook information on the kinfolk tribe you are apping for.
